One of the greatest creations of the human mind has been the camera. In order for a physical non-living item to see and take an image of something as clearly as the eye does require a technical understanding that took us hundreds of years to understand. Previously, we could only rely on the vision and artistic prowess of professional artists, and hours in order to paint a picture of a landscape or a person. Now, we have the most powerful cameras inside our phones, but it still takes some skill to take a professional photo. For this reason, we will be discussing some of the different camera lenses to use for different effects as given by Ismail Sirdah
Having and experimenting with different effects is essential to photographers. The following is a list of 6 camera lenses and the effects they give to your photos as provided by Ismail Sirdah.
Telephoto:
A telephoto has a “focal length” of anywhere from one hundred to six hundred millimeters. Focal length is the distance between the focus of the lens and the center of the lens. These are great for taking pictures of animals and wildlife, sports, or astronomy-type photos. The name comes from telescope because it allows you to take faraway shots.
Macro:
The macro lens has a focal length of anywhere from fifty to two hundred millimeters and is great for taking photos where there’s a lot of detail. These include close up shots of natural patterns or anything else with that is ultra-detailed.
Zoom:
The zoom lens is used mostly for portrait-style photography, wildlife, and weddings where the cameraman has to be sitting far away from the main scene. These lenses have a focal length of about the same millimeters are the macro lens.
Standard Prime:
These lenses come in a variety of focal lengths. They include 35, 50, 85, and 135 millimeters. Just like the zoom lens, the standard prime lenses can be used for portraits and weddings, and are commonly used when taking documentary videos.
Wide Angle:
The wide angle lens has a focal length of twenty-four to thirty-five millimeters and can be used for photographing forests, architecture, interiors, and any landscape you want.
Fisheye (Ultra-Wide):
This lens is probably the only one that by itself has a great effect, an ultra-wide effect. The focal length is anywhere from eight to twenty-four millimeters and can take great photos of panoramic shots cityscapes, landscapes, abstract items, and landscapes as well.
By themselves, these lenses will have a minimal effect but combined with the following hoods and filters, you will get some pretty awesome effects.
- Controlling Light Filter
- Polarizing Filter
- Soft, Cross, Rainbow, and Color Image
- Lens Protection Filter
- Round, Petal, and Square
In conclusion, in this article, we provided six different camera lenses that by themselves create some pretty awesome effects such as a wide lens effect, or a zoomed in the picture of the moon. While a standard camera or a smartphone can’t take such pictures, the effects are augmented when the lenses are paired with filters and hoods like the controlling light filter, or a cross filter which will turn regular light bulbs and street lamps into awesome sparkling lights. You should experiment with these filters, lenses, and hoods in order to find the one you like best, and who knows, maybe one of your photographs will become an online sensation.
